We expect all families to be involved in our community. Below are several committees you may join. All families will contribute to the functionality of our organization. When we work together to plan activities, we all benefit and share the work.
We repsectfully request that you choose at least one committee on which to serve. You may be involved in more than one. We are happy for you to use your talents in as many areas as you are confortable.
Lunch and Learn Wednesdays: Professionals from our community come to speak to 6th-12th graders about an industry. This is our idea of “Career Day” but last year we did this weekly. Help in this area would include scheduling individuals to speak and setting /cleaning the area. This would be on Mondays or Wednesdays at lunch time. It would not need to be every week, if you prefer.
Christmas Program and Open House : Both of these will need a coordinator to talk with instructors about their class’ contribution and determine an area for student displays. Each event will need a table for refreshments, providing a great opportunity for those who love decorating a room for a party. This year, I would like someone else to MC these events. My irrational stage fright gets the best of me, even among friends. We need to coordinate with the church calendar soon for Christmas.
Year End Program and Open House: Both of these will need a coordinator to talk with instructors about their class’ contribution and determine an area for student displays. Each event will need a table for refreshments, providing a great opportunity for those who love decorating a room for a party. This year, I would like someone else to MC these events. My irrational stage fright gets the best of me, even among friends.
Out of the Books Events (field trips): These events will be planned to benefit all ages. Field Trips, frequently, are offered to elementary students to go to a petting zoo or pumpkin farm. As this is very nice for the younger students, there are many opportunities where the older students can benefit from going to a location and observing an event or process. I know there are plans to go to the Renaissance Festival and Greek Festival, which are interesting for all ages. There are so many opportunities that we have as home school families. Many businesses willing to host a field trip for older students. I would like to have input from all families as far as ideas for field trips. The folks helping with this team would make calls to potential field trip locations and schedule an event. I have a format you may follow when interviewing possible locations. I also have contacts who are already willing to do a program.
Workshop and Forum Events : Last year we hosted a few forums and workshops. It is a great hit in the home school community because many people have wonderful information to share with us. These may be open to all home school families in the area. These could range from a High School writing workshop or How to Get Started Home Schooling to SAT prep or Help with High School Transcripts and choosing a college. This is an exciting category because anything is possible with this group. You would contact those in the community and schedule an event. We will help get the word out. I already have several people who would love to come, so all we need to do is schedule it and let people know.
Facebook Fan Page : I have to say that I am on Facebook under duress at the moment. I endured so much “harassment” from my friends that I finally caved. This is not something that I am pleased about keeping up with weekly and would like for someone who enjoys posting items and keeping up with activities at Full Circle to help with the maintenance of this and any other social media site.
Clubs : This year, we will have a few clubs and competition groups where kids can get involved with others with a similar interest. We can discuss ones that we plan to add and others that you would like to see us bring here. Any family who is a part of a club that they have enjoyed, please let us know more about them. The coordinator here would help to schedule a time for the meetings and get the word out to others that registration is in progress. Examples: Scouts, Science Olympiad, Odyssey of the Mind, Lego League, etc.
Christmas Party : Several of the teens have been asking to have a dance or social around Christmas this year. I know that they enjoy their time together here. I think that it will be nice to open it up to all home school families so the kids will have an opportunity to meet new friends and have a place to celebrate with those they do not see often as well. We already have a teen group who is working on the plans and we will need adult help with this.
Parent Events : I know that we parents always benefit when we gather and discuss how our school year is going. It is refreshing to get new ideas or just to find out that others share the same struggles. I would like to have a time of support where parents can visit together several times per year. This can be purely social or there can be an agenda. This can become whatever the parents would like most. We would appreciate ideas from all families on this one, even if you are not volunteering in this area.
Service Projects : Several of you have expressed a desire to have your child participate in a service project. This is a great “resume item” as well as a great learning experience for our kids. I would like to know what types of things your family (or your friends) have been a part of in the past. The coordinator here would take all of the ideas you offer and then get a consensus of interest among families in our community. We can open this up to get more participation, if the projects will need more people. This is a great place to be creative.
We welcome any ideas that will make our learning environment better and different.
